A surge of energy suddenly shot through me and I took a big gulp of breath as if I had been under water and had been deprived of oxygen. 

And with that, I regained control over my body once more. I tried to stand on my feet immediately, almost falling to the floor but I gained my composure and stood behind the couch.

“Who are you?!” I exclaimed. “And what do you want from me?!”

The man did not seem fazed, he watched me with intrigue and simply smiled. “You have nothing to worry about.”
