Chapter 34. Her Family Crisis
Linda Wells
“It’s your brother. After you left home, he went over to see Mitch,” my mom tries her best to explain even though I can tell it’s hard for her to speak between sobs.
“They got into a fight, and he was injured badly. He’s at a hospital not too far from the Hub Hotel,” she continues, and I sniffle as I try my best not to break down while talking to her. It would only trigger her to cry more.
“Is everything okay? Sammy asks when she returns from the kitchen. She has two cups of ice cream in her hand.
“It’s Ben, he got into a fight with Mitch, and now he is seriously hurt,” I inform her as I excuse myself.
“Wait, I can drive you,” she follows me, and I don’t say anything in response. I can’t stop thinking of Ben.
Both of us exit the house, and we head toward the car that I drove here. I can’t drive right now, my mind is all over the place, so I am grateful that Sammy offered.
“Where to?” She asks me when we have entered the car.
