Chapter 16. In the Heart of Crisis

Emily's Pov

My whole world collapses once again. I feel my legs grow heavy, almost losing my balance, but Benson holds me so I don't lose strength.

"Where's my father?" I ask with a choked voice, trying to stay focused.

"In the infirmary. Your mother and sister are already there," Amy explains urgently.

Benson and Amy accompany me into the castle. Time seems to slow down, making the path to the infirmary feel longer than usual. Worried people start appearing around us. They stare at me. A murmur of voices rises through the corridors and rooms. I try to filter all this on the way to my father.

With each step, my heart races faster.

"We searched everywhere, looked everywhere. It's my fault," I murmur guiltily. It's all my fault that this happened. I should have stayed by my father's side; I should have confronted Jimmy and Nina. I got distracted, and it led to the attack on my father.
