Chapter 18. Moonlit Confessions

Emily's Pov

There isn't much light coming through the fissure where we fell, and I feel pain when breathing. I probably broke some ribs in the fall. With some difficulty, I sit against the cave wall; this requires a surreal effort from me. I place my hand on my side and feel wetness; the smell of blood rises to my nostrils. I focus on using my healing powers. I feel a slight vibration and warmth emanating from my hand. It spreads throughout my body. Gradually, the pain diminishes, and a wave of relief fills my entire body. All the tension of the pain dissipates, and I breathe more easily.

I realize Benson hasn't responded or made any sound since we fell. This makes my heart race.

"Benson?!" I call for him again and receive only silence in response. He fell with me, I'm sure of it. "Benson, where are you?" I shout for him, and my voice echoes throughout the cave.

I get up from the ground and start feeling the cave walls.
