Chapter 108

Lance hesitated, glanced around, then took a seat.

“Speak,” Gerald snapped.

Standing nearby, Linda looked visibly upset seeing her daughter being treated like this.

“Grandpa, I was young and stupid… I just thought Cassandra’s ring looked nice…” Mara dropped to her knees by Gerald’s feet, tears streaming down her face. She confessed everything, then added, “I regretted it the moment I did it. That pendant belonged to Sister Faye. I shouldn’t have used it for a bet. I asked Cassandra to return it or even sell it back to me.”

She paused, then pointed at Cassandra, voice full of anger. “But she refused. She clearly waited until today to bring it up just to stir things up. Grandpa, she’s always copying Sister Faye and trying to get close to you — she must have some hidden agenda.”

“Exactly, Gerald,” Linda chimed in softly, “If Cassandra really had good intentions, why didn’t she tell you right away when she got the pendant?

Why wait until now?”
