Xerina’s POV
Zane’s eyes were a shade darker, like a storm of fury and disbelief, as they bore into mine. Blood trickled from the wound in his leg, but he didn’t falter. The room spun around me, but I held my ground, ignoring the searing pain in my side, the blood soaking through my clothes. The screams and shouts of the ongoing battle faded, reduced to a muffled echo as Zane and I stared each other down.
“You should’ve stayed down,” he growled, his voice low and dangerous, tinged with a mix of surprise and disdain. He yanked the shard of glass from his leg, the sound of it scraping against bone sending shivers down my spine. His blood dripped onto the floor, mingling with the crimson pool spreading beneath me. “But you’ve always been a stubborn bitch, haven’t you?”
I gritted my teeth, pushing back the wave of nausea that threatened to pull me under. My entire body screamed for rest, for release, but I couldn’t afford to stop—not now. “You’re not... touching
