Xerina’s POV
When he was done, he wrapped me in a large, soft towel, drying me off with the same tenderness. He avoided my gaze, his focus on the task at hand, but I could feel the tension radiating off him. He was holding back, restraining himself in a way I didn’t understand. I shivered, but it wasn’t from the cold.
Zane carried me back to the bed, his movements slow and deliberate. He dressed me in soft, clean clothes, and the fabric felt foreign against my skin. I didn’t recognize myself in this new state of cleanliness, and it made me uneasy. Who was I, if not the broken, bloodied girl from the dungeon?
“I have something for you,” Zane said, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out a small vial filled with a shimmering liquid, holding it up for me to see. “This will help you remember.”
I blinked, my mind sluggish. “Remember what?”
“Everything,” he said, his voice filled with a strange kind of reverence. “The truth.”
