Chapter 117. A Deity
Xerina’s POV
The mirror cracked with a delicate sound that reverberated in my skull, a haunting echo that refused to fade. I stared at the shattered reflection, at the pieces of my face staring back at me from a thousand different angles. My skin felt foreign, like it didn’t belong to me—like none of this belonged to me. And yet, it did. This room, this nightmare, this world. It was all mine. Zane told me so.
Strangely, I saw a reflection of myself. Maybe it was my hallucinations or something else, but it all seemed so real.
“Look closer,” his voice whispered, seductive and dangerous, like a serpent’s hiss in my ear. I felt his presence at my back, a shadow that I could never escape. He was always there, just at the edge of my vision, just out of reach.
I didn’t turn to face him. I didn’t have to. His hands slid over my shoulders, down my arms, warm and firm, grounding me in this horrific reality.
