Chapter 37. A Remarkable Gift

Delilah’s POV

I woke up with a start, my mind foggy and my body aching. I blinked my eyes to adjust to the atmosphere.

I struggled to sit up, scanning around maybe I could find anything familiar, when I realized that I was in a cold, dark dungeon.

My hands and legs were chained to the stone floor, and I was surrounded by damp walls and the stench of mold. And the only light came from a faint torch flickering in the corner, casting strange shadows on the walls.

What is going on? How did I get here? And where is this place exactly? Was the palace attacked? The last thing I remember is that some men attacked me.

And I saw Alaric, or I thought I saw Alaric.

Maybe those men kidnapped me and Alaric was out there looking for me, different thoughts flooded my mind as I tried to remember everything and understand what was going on, but my memories were still hazy and unsure.
