Her last words made me freeze. I didn’t even realize she was falling until her body tipped forward. The moment I saw it, I caught her before her body hit the ground.

“Daphne!” Panic flooded through me and tingles shot through my arm as I lifted her body into mine. The bond became really calm—the calmest it had ever been since I recognized Daphne as my mate.

An uncontrollable rush of emotions burst through me as I lifted her in a bridal style and pushed the door to her house open. The guard behind me wanted to come forward to help me, I shot him a warning glare, and he immediately stepped back.

The bond started to hum quietly as I lay her down on the couch. I stepped back a bit, unable to go far from her.
