Damn it!

I struggled out of the rubble, sustaining several wounds, but that wasn’t enough to stop me. I needed to get to Daphne. If she left me, I would be lost. I wouldn’t know what to do anymore. That was how much hold she had over me.

Outside would be dangerous for her. No matter where she passed through, secret tunnel or not, there would be werewolves waiting. The council built the detention center. They knew every nook and corner surrounding it.

I ran out, and just as I had expected, they were surrounded by werewolves.

A growl tore from my throat as I rushed toward them with one thought in mind: Destroy whoever tries to harm my woman.

They were pointing guns at her. They were about to lose their arms for that.

Just a few steps away from them, something unexpected happened. The werewolves who weren’t pointing guns at her suddenly dropped to their knees.

“We pledge allegiance to you, mistress,” they said in unison.
