Chapter 101. Bad Reception
Ayana’s POV
The drive has been swift and silent. No word has been said inside this car since we left the city. There was nothing but some buzz playing, even on a low key. I have anticipated the scenario that would happen if Robby were to see us all the way through, and I appreciate him not saying a word. At least he has not scrubbed that site I saw of him tonight.
As we drive into the so-familiar neighborhood, my stomach churns with restlessness, knots of fear forming inside. It is already midnight, and that is not all. Adam is driving me home. I don’t know how I am going to explain my lateness to Robby since I could not come up with a better lie all drive through. His seeing Adam will evoke a catastrophe that will blow up everything remaining between us.
I shut my eyes, paring and crossing my fingers in the hope that that never happens. I hope he does not see us. Adam will just make a quick stop at the gate, and I will jump out and walk inside. Everything w
