Chapter 71. Stubborn Men
The following day, Ayana woke to the warmth of a blanket covering her as her head rested on the bed beside her daughter. She looked around the room, but there was no one. To the angel that brought the blanket, she was grateful.
She looked at her still-sleeping daughter, more self-blame surging in as she recalled that she watched her daughter get hit by a motorcycle. She cursed the hit-and-run man a million times. But to herself, she blamed herself even more.
She kissed Lyana’s forehead. “I am so sorry, baby,” she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. “Forgive Mommy for being so careless.”
“I promise to keep watching over you carefully from this moment onwards,” she whispered, her voice choked with emotion as she shut her eyes, making a vow to never let her daughter out of her sight ever again. No matter what. What she wanted to prove to the old woman was nothing compared to the life of her innocent child.
“I am fine, Mommy. Stop worrying,” her daughter
