Chapter 20. The Death of a Bully
I was startled awake by a loud crashing sound. Groggily, I wiped my face as I tried to listen for any other noises. I could hear muffled voices coming from downstairs. I pulled out my cellphone and noticed an alert from my map application. I opened the alert, and my heart began to race. Tabitha’s phone was pinging at my location. Was it really Tabitha? Or did she give her phone to one of her goons? I panicked as I grabbed my handgun that I kept on my nightstand, and then, as quietly as possible, I left my bedroom. When my bedroom door was open, I could hear the voices a little bit better. It was a male and a female voice. The male voice sounded like Austin’s voice, but I did not recognize the female voice immediately. I had grown up in this house, so I knew where all the squeaky floorboards were. I maneuvered through the upstairs hallway, successfully managing not to make a sound. I came to the steps and stopped to listen to the voices.
“Why are you doing this?” Austin asked.
