Serena POV

Knox’s usual grin was gone, and his arms were folded tightly across his chest like he was holding himself together.

“Serena,” he said in a low voice. “We need to talk.”

I led him inside, and we went straight to the sitting room but he wouldn’t even sit down. He paced the floor and finally stopped, staring at me hard.

“Myles is about to make a dangerous choice,” he said.

“What do you mean?” I asked even though I already guessed.

“He wants out,” Knox said. “He wants to retire from the club. And he wants to do it now.”

I blinked at him.

“But retire? Can’t he choose that?”

Knox shook his head.

“Not like this. The code says you can retire only after forty-five. You know that. That rule wasn’t written for nothing. Gang life doesn’t just let people walk away when they’re still strong. The brothers won’t like it. Some are already grumbling. If he pushes it, he might have half his own men against him.”
