"Even the grass is edible," she said, bending down and pulling a green mound off the ground. "Try it, it has a taste of mint.
And there really was. It was a much stronger taste of mint than usual, which even made me water for the exaggerated freshness that spread all over my throat, but it still reminded me a lot of a chewing gum that never lost its taste. I closed my eyes while chewing, and only at that moment did I understand what the food could do for Faye, because I could momentarily forget everything that afflicted me. The taste was spreading throughout my body and bringing freshness to the parts that were asleep and on fire for that endless mourning.
