I did feel guilty about not spending much time with my son lately. I could use today to make up for lost time at least.

“You are such a great mother Issa, I admire that. Some mothers just don’t care. Mine is a pretty good example.”

That’s right, I had never heard Hudson say anything about his mother before. In fact, I had even assumed that his mother had passed on like mine when we went to where he resided. He had after all said that it was where he resided with his father, leaving his mother out.

Unsure about if he would mind me probing, I hesitated before asking. “What makes you say that about your mother?”

He shrugged and scoffed at the same time, hurt spreading across his face. “I haven’t set eyes on my mother in fifteen years. She is practically non-existent in my life. My parents aren’t married. She got pregnant with me after a drunken mistake with my dad, “ he paused to chuckle sardonically.
