Chapter 99. Her Interesting Lovelife

Carlos's POV

I was sitting with Freya and Nica, under the shade of an oak tree in the local park.

It was the early hours of the evening. The cool evening breeze was a welcome reprieve from the heat of the day. The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm, golden hue over the landscape but without its earlier harshness. Long shadows stretched across the ground, and the leaves of the old oak tree rustled softly in the gentle breeze.

“Did you hear about what happened to the laboratory of Alberto?” Nica let out a yawn as she ended her words,  her sparkling eyes moving between me and Freya, almost undecidedly.

“Yeah!” Freya clapped, and then shook her head so hard I was scared it would fall off. “So unfortunate what happened there. The laboratory got caught up in flames and burnt down and all the scientists were in there,  so agonising…”
