Chapter 23. Taken To Uncle Pete's House
“What is she doing here?”
A woman who looked to be in her late thirties frowned as soon as she saw me. She had short black curls and a heavy load of make-up. She would have been pretty if she hadn't decided to cake her face with so many beauty products. She was tall and slim but not really a model-shaped kind of physique. She chewed and popped bubble gum with careless abandon.
“Not now, Catherine.”
Uncle Pete merely said, leading me further into his living room. His house was beautiful and spoke of wealth too.
I had spent ten days in the hospital trying to get better. The doctor had refused to discharge me until he was sure my blood pressure was back to normal. I was still hurting and mourning the miscarriage of the baby I would never meet, but I had tried not to stress much so I could leave the hospital.
