Just a few minutes after speaking with my mom on the phone, my phone buzzed again. Fearful that it was my mom again—or rather, Shimma—I hurriedly answered the call.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Mattias,” a deep, low voice said.

“Hello. Who is this, and how can I help you?” I asked, frowning. I glanced at my phone screen; it was an unknown number.

“I am Officer Connor. We received both your and Doctor Ryle’s reports about a man named Lucas. Am I speaking with the right person?” the man asked.

“Yes, you are. Do you have any news?” I asked, my heart racing. I hoped they had caught him at the airport. That way, there wouldn’t be any violence. As much as I wanted to teach him a lesson for the damage he had caused, I wanted this settled peacefully.
