Chapter 61
Waking up, Jackson isn’t in bed. I look at the time, just after 9 am. I should call my Dad, but the fear of what he might say scares me. I have no choice, though, as Jackson said. I won’t move on until I know. I dial his number, and wait for him to answer, secretly hoping he doesn’t.
“Hey Princess, everything okay?”
A tear escapes my eye. I miss my Dad. I hardly see or speak to him anymore. “Hey, Dad, I am fine, but I was in a car accident the other day.”
He shouts down the phone, cutting me off. “What happened Alena, are you okay? Why didn’t you let me know sooner?” He is clearly panicking, but I am fine. I just need the answers.
“I am fine, Dad. Can you listen, please? At the hospital, they were talking about an incident when I was two.” Pausing, I hope he has no idea, or it is a mistake. He is silent. No words at all escape his mouth. That confirms it is true. “What happened, Dad? I have a right to know. How was I poisoned?” He is still silent. Ma
