Clary nodded and then swallowed. She felt nervous. Yes, she hated what the preacher did to her and wanted it to stop, but she did not want to hurt him even more than she already had by just being in his life.
But she also wanted to be free. She was tired of being beaten to a pulp almost every day when the preacher would come home drunk. She was tired of living in fear and anxiety. She was tired of cleaning bruises and fixing broken noses.
She was tired of drowning in depression. And this was a way out.
“Okay,” She finally gave her answer.
The principal raised one of her eyebrows. “Okay?”
