Chapter 33. That Should Be Your First Step
"Mother, what brings you here?"
"I wasn't aware I was unwelcome in my son-in-law's house."
I arch an eyebrow at her response. So, she finally acknowledges having a son-in-law! How intriguing. Before I can utter a word, Kian beats me to it, bounding toward the doorway. I quickly move out of his way as he exclaims, "Mother-in-law!"
Taking a closer look at him, I'm struck by his disheveled appearance, an unusual sight for a man who typically keeps his clothes immaculate. His tie hangs loosely around his neck, and his once-pristine attire is now wrinkled. He's even forsaken shoes and socks. I find myself wondering if this is the same man I married.
"You knew she was coming?" I asked him in disbelief.
"Actually, I invited her to come over," he replies, not even bothering to glance in my direction.
"Why would you do that?" I ask, my voice rising. The last thing I want is her presence here.
"I didn't think you'd be home today."
