Mason’s POV
“Who the hell does he think he is?” I muttered to myself after ending the call.
My hands were still gripping the phone tightly, and my heart raced as if it had been a face-to-face confrontation instead of just a conversation.
I stood there for a moment, letting the silence of the kitchen wrap around me.
The faint hum of the fridge was the only sound, and it should’ve comforted me, but it didn’t. My eyes darted to the windows, then the doorway. Was someone listening? Watching?
“No,” I whispered, shaking my head. “Don’t start this, Mason. Nobody’s here.”
Still, my body didn’t believe it. I found myself walking to the backdoor, double-checking the lock, and glancing out the small window. The yard was dark, empty, but the paranoia wouldn’t leave.
I turned back to the kitchen, scanning it one last time. “Alright, calm down
