Chapter 287
Logan’s POV
She opened her mouth to protest, but before she could say anything, I reached into the bag I’d had with me and handed her a small gift bag. “Here,” I said, trying to soften the moment. “It’s just a little something. I know you’ll like it.”
Layla took the bag from me, her fingers brushing against mine for a moment. I saw her look at the bag, her expression softening a little, but she still wasn’t happy with my decision.
“Logan, I don’t want to go to your house,” she said again, more quietly this time. “I don’t want to be in the way. You don’t have to send me away.”
I could see the hesitation in her eyes, the confusion, and a hint of hurt. But I couldn’t explain everything to her right now. She had to trust me, even if it was hard. “It’s for the best,” I said, keeping my voice steady. “You’ll be safe there, and I’ll take care of things. I’ll be back before you know it.”
