I smiled to myself, a look of satisfaction warming my chest. He’s so predictable. Always trying to see the best in people, even when it’s staring him in the face that not everyone deserves his trust.
Still, I couldn’t shake the lingering frustration. The way he had defended Dani so passionately, even in the face of such a convenient explanation, was maddening. It was as if he couldn’t see that Dani wasn’t the perfect, loyal friend he thought he was.
