Jason’s POV

The breath I didn’t realize I was holding escaped in a rush, and I felt my knees weaken with relief. I closed my eyes for a moment, whispering a silent thank you.

“Thank God,” I muttered. “Thank you, Doctor. Thank you.”

But then, his expression shifted, and my heart tightened again. There was something else.

“There are two problems we need to discuss,” Dr. Thompson said, his tone measured but serious.

“Two problems?” I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper. Fear gripped me, but I forced myself to stay calm. “What are they?”

Dr. Thompson sighed and gestured for me to sit down, but I shook my head, unable to relax. He began to explain, his words hitting me like bricks.

“The fall Miss Layla suffered was severe. Frankly, it’s a miracle she survived,” he said, his voice tinged with disbelief. “I’ve seen injuries like hers before, and most patients don’t make it. She’s incredibly lucky, but…”

“But what?”
