Jason’s POV

“Be patient with her,” I added, my voice soft. “She’s been through so much.”

Maddie gave me a small nod before walking toward Layla. I stayed behind, leaning against the wall, watching as she sat down beside the bed.

“Layla,” Maddie said gently, her voice laced with emotion.

There was a moment of silence, and I held my breath, waiting for Layla’s reaction. Then, to my utter shock, Layla’s lips moved, and she whispered, “Maddie? Is that you?”

I froze. Maddie’s eyes widened in disbelief, and she leaned closer. “Yes, Layla, it’s me,” she said, her voice trembling.
