Chapter 631
Isabella’s POV
When I opened my eyes again, the room was dim, the curtains drawn just enough to let in a sliver of gray light. My head throbbed, and my mouth was dry, the bitter taste of whiskey still clinging to my tongue. For a moment, I didn’t remember where I was until the soft rustle of fabric made me turn.
Nana stood near the window, folding a blanket.
“You’re awake,” she said quietly, her voice neither judging nor surprised.
I tried to sit up, but the motion made my stomach lurch. “How long was I out?”
“Just a few hours,” she replied, smoothing the blanket with deliberate care.
“I’m fine,” I lied, pressing the heel of my hand to my temple.
Nana gave me a look that said she didn’t believe a word of it, but she didn’t argue. She simply moved toward the door. “I’ll bring you something warm to eat. Try to rest a little longer, ma’am.”
