Logan's POV

We reached his room, and I gently laid him on his bed, pulling the covers up to his chin. His eyes were heavy, his lashes fluttering as he struggled to stay awake. 

I sat beside him, brushing his hair back, watching as his breathing evened out, his face softening as he slipped into sleep.

I stayed there for a while, just watching him, my heart aching with love and guilt. He looked so small, so vulnerable, and I realized just how close I’d come to losing him.

I’d been selfish. I’d been reckless. But I wouldn’t make that mistake again. I would protect him. I would be there for him. No matter what.

I leaned down, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “I’m here, buddy. I’m not going anywhere.”

His lips curled into a sleepy smile, his fingers curling around mine. 

“Love you, Daddy...”

My chest tightened, my eyes stinging.
