Maddie's POV

He loved Layla so much. He was willing to do anything for her, to be anything for her. How could I shatter his heart like that?

But if I didn’t tell him, if I kept lying, then I was betraying him. I was breaking his trust, keeping him in the dark while his worst fears slowly became reality. How could I do that to him?

I was stuck. Trapped between two people I cared about, two people who were falling apart and didn’t even realize it. And I was lying to both of them.

My eyes stung with tears as the weight of it all crashed down on me. I was in way over my head, and there was no way out. No way to protect them both. No way to keep them from getting hurt.

I took a deep breath, wiping at my eyes as I stood up, my hands shaking as I tried to pull myself together. I had to figure this out. I had to find a way to fix this before it all fell apart.
