Chapter 145
Maxine’s POV
"Zel! I knew it!" Cinder said, "There was no way you would have stayed in the human world for so long unless you had fallen in love with a man."
Zel rolled her eyes. She had the normal room out of all the children and yet, she looked the most different. The weirder of all of them. "It turns out that rent costs a ton and I just truly wanted peace and quiet so I decided to crash up here." She looked to be about my age.
"You better not have touched anything." Cinder said, walking into the house.
Zel glanced at me. "Hey." And then turned, following after her mother, "Aside from cleaning the house, I didn't do much."
The interior of the house was filled with a mix of artifacts and books. Each piece probably heard a story known by the lorekeeper. Shelves lined the walls, overflowing with ancient tomes and relics.
Cinder led us to a cozy sitting area, where a fire crackled warmly in the hearth.
"You can sit here," Zel
