Chapter 144
Maxine’s POV
The room was awfully silent. It felt like I was soundproofed from the rest of the world. I confirmed it when I cracked open the window. Wind blew into the room, carrying with it the scent of leaves and the sound of birds. Not a sound of vehicles or anything.
I was really in the middle of nowhere.
I settled in and managed to fall asleep when I heard a voice in my room. "It's time for dinner, Maxine. Come down stairs." It was Cinder's voice.
I thought the house was soundproof but as I looked around, I spotted the small speaker at the top of the wall. This place was like a human classroom where the principal had a microphone that was connected to all the classroom's speaker.
It was one of the things that had intrigued me when I tried to sneak into a human school when I was younger and more daring.
