Maxine's POV

The next morning, I arrived at the training ground, trying to ignore the pain that had eaten my body. I stood at the far end, feeling nervous and exposed. Liam began to address us, his voice cold and authoritative.

"Today, we will test your strength and see how far you have come. You will be paired for combat training."

There were gasps and murmurs among the trainees, but he continued. "Your leader will pair you. Fight well."

I watched as the trainer began pairing us off. When he called my name, I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach. He paired me with Linda, and I saw the shock on my face mirrored in Linda's triumphant smile. She had always disliked me. I knew she had eyes on Alpha from the way she looked at him. It was obvious that she was obsessed. and now she had her chance to show it.

I don't even know why all these girls kept hating me when Liam barely looked at me. He didn't even want me. So why on earth do they envy
