“Mother?” He called out, it came out more of a question than a statement. “H-How are you here?”
Before he could splutter more questions, she fainted at the doorstep, and behind her was a trail of blood he had not noticed due to shock. Imani’s hand flew to her mouth at the sight of everything, and he stood there confused at what just happened—is happening.
“Help her up, Kai. Snap out of it.” Imani’s contorted voice muttered beside him, and he quickly picked her up; he could not help but notice that his mother was so light-weight than usual. What had she been doing all these while?
“I would go wake the rest of the family up,” Imani stated when they had settled his mother on the couch. He was too stunned to nod or even do anything. This couch accommodated lots of people in short intervals. He, Hinata, Imani, and now his mother. It pressed him to know when all this would end when he would find the peace he so craved.
