Chapter 133
The party ended soon after Lovella’s arrival, so Jormun and I said our goodbyes to the other patrons and the host before leaving the ballroom and luxurious manor.
The ride back to the loft was tense; the silence between us was heavy, like an unwelcome third passenger. I stared out the window, watching the streetlights blur past in streaks of gold, but I couldn’t help but glance over at Jormun as we drove home.
Jormun hadn’t said much since our exchange with Lovella; which felt unusual for some reason. I felt like he would usually have a way of diffusing my irritation with well-placed quips or logical reassurances. But tonight, he was different. Quieter. Coiled.
When we reached the loft, I stepped through the door first, switching on the lights to chase away the shadows. I did not see Andra, which told me she had most likely headed to bed already. That meant that Jormun and I were left alone to our own devices for the night.
I took off my jacket and hung it up
