Chapter 15

He jumped to his feet so quickly she thought she was dreaming. He didn’t ask any questions, just ran towards her and dived in. She felt like an idiot. How could she lose the girl under water? She tried to be as still as she could so she wouldn’t disturb the water as much. It felt like minutes had passed. He rose from the water with the girls in his arms. He pulled her to the edge of the back and began pumping the water out of her. Victoria watched helplessly. She had followed him to the bank and was now on her knees beside them, cursing herself. He opened Saya’s mouth and blew and then pressed on her chest again. The girl sputtered water and then began coughing. He pulled her up to a sitting position and patted her on the back. Anger was reflected in his eyes.

“What the hell were you thinking?” he shouted at the girl. “How many times do I have to tell you about trying to swim to the bottom of that damn pond?”
