Chapter 29
[Six months earlier]
“I love coffee,” he said with a shrug. She nodded and went back to eating her food. Uriah settled in his chair and stared at her before diving into his own food. “Thank you for coming, Erin. I do appreciate it,” he confessed after taking a few spoons of his food. Erin looked up at him, wearing a smile on her face.
“You would do the same for me – check up on me, I mean,” she clarified. He nodded.
“I woke up next to you today…” he trailed, trying to gauge her reaction. His heart soared when she blushed. “How did we get there?” he pushed. She stared at him in surprise, and he watched her face fall, slowly filling him with unreserved guilt.
Damn! I took this acting thing too far.
He chided himself, hoping that she wouldn’t hold on to him without having any recollection of the previous night.
“It doesn’t matter,” he added as a means of damage control. “What matters is that it was the second-best morning of my life.” She stared blan
