Chapter 30
[One month after Erin’s move]
Erin stared out at the front yard through her window, taking in a breath of fresh air and basking in the feel of her thoughts. She felt a sense of peace and wanted to dwell in it. It had been a while since she felt this way, and she was uncertain when the next time she would feel this way would be.
“Hey, you good?” she turned her head in the direction of the voice. Her lips parted into a warm smile when her eyes fell on Chris. His shirt was unbuttoned, and he had a tray of food in hand, which was typical of him.
“I am. Just staring out the window,” she told him. He dropped the tray of food on the bedside table, moved further into the room, and stopped just close to the bed. Erin watched his movements, one eyebrow lifted in curiosity.
“He didn’t leave the entire night. He slept in his car.”
