Chapter 47
A bite-size of the pandesal bread hang in midair as Catherine was obliged to explain why Jonas was seen coming out from her bedroom. She sipped a little coffee first before she opened her mouth to answer Marjorie’s question. “Well, he just asked if I can give him a bath soap because he was out of stock,” she lied.
“I see. I thought he stayed the night with you,” Marjorie continued with her suspicion about Jonas.
Catherine laughed loudly to mask the nervousness she felt inside and exclaimed, “Of course not! Why would I allow him to sleep in the room?”
“Why not? You have a vacant deck, and you are friends.” Marjorie said.
Catherine felt relieved that Marjorie didn’t assume the worst about her and Jonas. “I heard that he snores and you know I can’t sleep when it’s loud in the room,” she explained.
“No wonder your radio was loud last night,” Marjorie said and Mary burst out laughing at Marjorie’s sarcastic remark.
