Chapter 38
Elijah heads to the sink, turning on the cold tap to let it run to freezing before he gets glasses out of the cupboard. When he offers me one, I decline. The water around here tastes funny, which I keep telling him, so I bought myself a case of bottles from the shop near school the other night. He called me a snob. This may be true... but really it was more so I don't have to emerge from my room every time I'm thirsty. A massive bonus, in my opinion.
He shrugs, downs the glass of water he's just filled, and then refills it.
"Thirsty?" I ask, raising my eyebrow as he takes another drink. He just shrugs again, so I have to prompt him. "What've you been doing?"
"Just around."
"Around?"
"Yup."
I pull myself up to sit on the worktop. "Why the secrecy? You have been doing dr**s or something?" I laugh, and he tuts and rolls his eyes.
