Chapter 5
That’s not surprising, considering it’s all there seems to be in this village. At least from where I’m standing, anyway. Cottages, more cottages, and the church across the road. There’s not a single modern-style house on the street, and I can kiss goodbye to the idea of a surprise Miller Special, because there’s not even a local pizza shop, let alone a McDonald’s. It feels like we’ve driven right through a time warp and back to the 1940s.
I look over at the building we’ve pulled up in front of. It’s nestled between two other homes on either side, each with identical rough stone brickwork.
As I take it in, the first thought that crosses my mind is that it’s absolutely tiny. Even Rachel purses her lips slightly in doubt before she picks up her clipboard from the passenger seat to check the address. It must be correct because she nods to herself and shrugs her shoulders slightly, then opens the driver’s side door and climbs out.
