Elise’s POV

I wanted to believe him, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were making a mistake by not going after Kanen right away. I knew they were trying to be careful, to respect Kanen’s wishes, but I couldn’t help but worry. What if something happened to him? Or to Rose? Could I live with myself if I didn’t do everything I could to help them? I thought to myself but still did not get an answer.

I glanced at the directions we used in coming into the forest, half-expecting Kanen to come storming back in, demanding to know why we hadn’t followed him. But the direction remained calm, the room still and quiet. I bit my lip, trying to push down the panic in me.

“Let’s just be ready,” I said finally, my voice quieter now. “In case we need to move quickly.” I said, still disturbed at the current situation on ground.
