Celine and I sat by the dry stream, both lost in thought as we stared out at the empty, lifeless land around us.
The silence was thick, only broken by the soft, dry wind that blew dust and leaves across the cracked ground.
I tried to imagine what this place must have looked like before, back when the stream was flowing and the land was green and full of life.
But now, all I could see was death. No water, no animals, no sign of hope.
The sun was high in the sky now, signaling that it was well into the afternoon.
My stomach growled softly, a reminder of the growing hunger already inside me.
