“I don’t think it sounds crazy,” I said, breaking the silence. “In fact, it sounds like someone—or something—wanted to make sure you were safe.”

Elise gave me a small, grateful smile. “I guess that’s one way to look at it. But it was still terrifying, not knowing who or what was helping me. I kept expecting to turn around and find someone standing there, but there was never anyone.”
