‘‘Wasn't she the woman you were going to marry?’’ Brylee's voice jolted me out of my reverie as she continued. ‘‘How could you find another woman so quickly to replace the one you loved?’’

I have no idea why she brought up Claire out of the blue, but I could tell by the look in her eyes that she was envious. It's impossible for me to tell whether she's feeling it towards Celine or Claire, but I can definitely say that it was for both of them.

‘‘I thought you said that you wanted to love her until the end of time...’’ It appeared as though she had lost track of the primary topic, and she rapidly changed the conversation to focus on Claire. ‘‘I am carrying her heart within me... and I have the same face as Celine… but why can’t you love me, Seb?’’

Then, all of a sudden, she clenched her fists to her chest, and fresh tears began streaming down her face.
