“S-She’s…” He couldn’t utter the word that Carrie said.

She could see her despising glare, but his heart was already falling to pieces. His head was spinning with his bewildered thoughts. His mouth remained dropped open – as if it were helping him to breathe.

“S-She’s… S-She’s p-pregnant…?” He tried to say it weakly – as if he wanted her confirmation a second time.

He was silently hoping that he heard her wrong. That she might just be too mad at him to tell him these words. That he would take everything – even her anger – just for her to take back the words.
