I watched Kaden as he rounded up all my stuff and took my bag before he tiptoed down the stairs. I followed closely behind, gripping the back of his shirt, not saying anything to him.
Kaden mentioned that sneaking out the front door wasn’t the smartest move, but Lia had promised him she’d cover for him if he did.
True to her word, we made it to the main door without a hitch. But the moment Kaden swung it open, my heart dropped when I spotted my dad standing there, his back to us.
We froze and took a cautious step back, but as soon as he sensed us, he turned around. He looked surprised at first, but quickly regained his composure.
“Oh, hi. Good morning!"He said, a big smile lighting up his face as he greeted me. He pulled me in for a tight hug, one hand wrapped around me and the other holding a steaming mug of coffee.
“Good morning, Daddy,” I replied, hugging him back, which helped ease my anxiety.
