After Kaden ended the call, Shirley popped up in the kitchen and waved for me to follow her, a warm smile lighting up her face. I obliged without hesitation. Even though she was getting on in years, she was still quite the looker. It made me think of Aunt Josephine, and I was suddenly reminded of her.

She used to give me that same smile back, four years ago, when she was focused on me instead of her new husband. I shook my head to clear that thought and trailed behind Shirley.
