Chapter 30. In the Long Run
Zack’s POV
I nodded, and we fell into a comfortable silence as we walked down the hallway to Dr. Walter’s office.
The walls were lined with pictures of past patients, each smiling face a reminder of the hope this place offered. I had been here a couple of times in my younger years for broken bones, but never for something like this.
As we approached the door, a sense of unease settled in my stomach. I couldn’t shake the feeling that this visit would be different. Goddess, I was terrified to learn the extent of her injuries and the abuse she had suffered.
“There is no turning back now,” Lupa howled. “We need to know how bad it is so that we can help her.”
“And bring her justice,” I added, anger coursing through my veins at the thought of what they had done to her.
Suddenly, Lilly paused next to me, and my gaze snapped to her.
“Why did she stop?” Lupa asked.
“I don’t know!” I replied.
